I thought I might include this sort of question in here, because I really get that quite a lot. Trades : it does really depends on if I have time or willing. Sometimes I do them, but not now. I have seen a lot of great drawings in one Russian Harry Potter group, and decided to try drawing my own. Eventually, it grew up into what I am doing right now. Same here, everything you want with credit, just keep in mind that learning from my drawings only, is not the best thing because they still have a lot of mistakes.
English seems to be not your native language, where are you from? I am from Odessa, Ukraine. Why is this harmful? How can you do this? Do your research. Read books by people from that culture. Talk to people from that culture. Tokenism in writing is the practice of doing something such as writing about a person who belongs to a minority group only to prevent criticism and give the appearance that representation is included.
The problem with tokenism is that characters placed into this position are suddenly put into the position of being the single representation of their particular group.
This is even more damaging as this spills over into the real world. Invoking tokenism does not force creators to be creative and gives viewers a false sense of diversity.
Jokes are taken at the expense of tokenized characters regarding their race, ethnicity, accent, etc….. That is not meaningful diversity and can be just as harmful as tokenism. How do you avoid tokenism? Write the character from a place of empathy, make them three dimensional, do your research on the culture, and avoid stereotypes.
